The main goal of the Music Education programs in partnership with Yamaha Music is to instill in children a love of music and enable them to acquire logical, artistic and motor skills in a playful and engaging way. Through these projects, children develop their all-around musical skills and learn to express themselves through music, feeling freer and more confident.
The Yamaha method represents a revolutionary approach in music teaching because of its emphasis on listening rather than reading. This process begins by immersing the child in a musical environment where active listening becomes the key to understanding and internalizing music. Next, through singing, the child learns to imitate and express what he or she has heard, using the voice as the first learning tool. Only later, the transition to the keyboard allows these skills to be transferred into practical skills at the instrument.
Through the Yamaha method, children not only learn to recognize notes but also gain more coordination, develop their creativity and social relationships, learning not only to rely on their own abilities but also to cooperate and motivate one another.
During the hour devoted to the project, children tackle rhythm games, such as producing memorized solfèges, singing songs or playing alone or in ensembles, to fortify both their sense and perception of rhythm and their approach to harmony. They also learn to play repertoire pieces, with separate or joined hands, and ensemble pieces, just as if they were part of a small orchestra.
Programs favor the keyboard as it is an ideal instrument for beginners due to its accessibility with clearly visible keys and consistent intonation. In addition, by playing the keyboard with both hands, children have the opportunity to develop polyphonic skills, thereby improving their hand coordination and understanding of music. These features make the keyboard an excellent tool for introducing children to the fundamental concepts of music, providing them with a comprehensive and engaging learning experience from the very beginning.
All music teachers involved in Yamaha projects hold a conservatory degree. Selection is extremely rigorous and takes place through an entrance test and pedagogical evaluation. Once selected, teachers participate in periodic refresher training with trainers who are part of Yamaha’s European team that is responsible for the ongoing care and development of the teaching method.
The Yamaha method is suitable for school-age children and it is recommended that they be started as early as possible, preferably as early as the first school year. Starting at an early age allows children to take full advantage of the benefits of the program, maximizing the opportunity to fully develop their musical and creative abilities from the very beginning of their education.
In order for your child to participate in one of our Music Education projects, please contact us directly. Together, we can discuss the best way to present the project to the school board, principal, board of teachers or parent assembly, depending on the specific ways in which the course fits into the school’s curriculum.
At the end of each training course, pupils will receive a certificate of participation, which testifies to their commitment and progress. In addition, starting in their third year, they will have the opportunity to take an official grade-level exam to assess their acquired musical skills and abilities and obtain the prestigious Yamaha Music certification.
